Grizzlies Take On the Nets Again

Share the joy

Tonight the Memphis Grizzlies take on the Brooklyn Nets for the final time this season. Memphis (36-27) is coming off a bad weekend of basketball, losing on Friday to Dallas and Saturday to Houston. Brooklyn comes into the night with only one more win since their last meeting with Memphis on February 13th (a 112-103 Grizzlies victory). The lowly Nets are sitting at the very bottom of the NBA with a record of 10-51. The Grizzlies hope to have Brandan Wright back in the lineup tonight. The Nets will be without Joe Harris (concussion and sprained left shoulder). Memphis also catches the Nets on their 3rd road game in 4 nights, while the Grizz are beginning a home stand tonight and had Sunday off.

Keys to Victory:

*Don’t overlook the Nets. The Grizz have a habit of overlooking teams with losing records. Any Grizzlies fan has lamented over that more than we might care to admit. Yes, the Nets are bad. Like, really bad. But they are still an NBA team that can win on any given night. Respect them and go at this game like you are playing a top 5 team. Foot on the gas, get a nice lead, and refuse to give it up.

*Play defense from tipoff. Brooklyn is one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA. Memphis should be able to assert their will. Brooklyn allows 114.4ppg (30th in the league) while scoring 105.3ppg (good for 14th in the NBA). In contrast, the Grizzlies are allowing 100.2ppg and scoring 101.3ppg. The Nets have Brook Lopez, but little else in the way of solid defense. If the Grizzlies defense shows up (looking at especially Tony Allen, Marc Gasol, and JaMychal Green) then Memphis should come away with a solid win.

*Nets PG Jeremy Lin will likely never regain the popularity of the days of Linsanity, but Brooklyn is hoping for a serviceable job from him. Lin recently returned from injury and is still on a minutes restriction. Mike Conley has been playing at an elite level the last few games. He is averaging 27points and 6 assists in the last 4 games. Don’t expect Conley to have much trouble with Lin tonight.

This is the first game of a 4 game home stand for the Grizzlies. Hopefully they can shake off the rust that has encased them the last few games and go after that 4 spot and home court that is up for grabs in the West. The time is now Grizz.
