Looking For Another Grizzmas Present – Grizz vs 76ers Preview

On Tuesday the Grizzlies (15-14) take on the 1-28 Philadelphia 76ers in Wells Fargo Center.  In their last meeting on November 29th the Grizzlies came away with a 84-92 victory behind a 20 point showing from Mike Conley, 17 points from Zach Randolph, and 13 points each from Matt Barnes and Jeff Green.

This Grizzlies starting five will look quite a bit different from the starting five the 76ers faced in their previous meeting, as Zach Randolph and Tony Allen have now moved to the bench.  Tony Allen has missed 5 straight games with knee soreness and there is no word yet as to whether he will be playing tonight.  The 76ers are coming off 10 straight losses while the Grizzlies are looking to extend their one game winning streak they began by beating the Indiana Pacers 96-84 on Saturday night.  The last time these two teams met the 76ers had lost their last 4 games by a total of 16 points.  Now, however, the tide has turned for the 76ers and their last 4 games have been blowouts they lost by wide margins totaling 82 points.

The 76ers look to be without Carl Landry (right wrist) but they do have Nerlens Noel back in action after missing games with a scratched cornea.  Since he has been back, he’s tallied 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 3 blocks.  Sixers guard and ex-Grizzly Tony Wroten will play tonight on a 25 minutes restriction after his recovery from a torn ACL.

The Grizz will again depend on the services of Mike Conley, Marc Gasol, and company to deal with this scrappy 76ers team.  Expect Matt Barnes to play a hefty role with his tenacious defense.  Also expect Mike Conley to look to assert himself as he works to get back to the form he was in last season before injury.  The Marc Gasol versus Jahlil Okafor matchup should be fun, but Gasol will be able to contain the young Center.  I would like to say this will be a Grizzlies blowout win, but the 76ers are a young team eager for another win, and we all know how the Grizz like to underestimate opponents.  Let’s hope this doesn’t happen tonight and the Grizz come away with the victory.
