Preview: Grizzlies vs Mavericks

The Mavericks are a team the Grizzlies struggled against last season, with Dallas winning 3 out of 4 games in the regular series in the 2013-2014 season. They met one time in the preseason, with Memphis falling to Dallas 108-103.

Since the last regular season meeting between these two teams, the Mavericks have added former Knicks center Tyson Chandler and former Rockets small forward Chandler Parsons. The roster for this Dallas team is not one to be underestimated, so the Grizzlies will need to be on their toes.

In addition to the two rookies acquired in the NBA Draft, the Grizzlies also added former Mavericks shooting guard Vince Carter. Carter underwent surgery on his ankle this summer and is visibly still struggling to recover fully from it, and thus has had minimal contributions in this early part of the season. Still, there are bursts of Vinsanity here and there, and we can expect his impact to be felt more this spring.

The last regular season meeting of these two teams was in fact the last regular season game for the 2013-2014 season, in which the Grizzlies defeated the Mavericks in OT, thanks to a clutch offensive rebound and put back by Tony Allen and then a pair of free throws by Mike Conley with only seconds left in the game. That game decided the final two seeds in the Western Conference for the playoffs, with Memphis taking the 7th and Dallas taking the 8th and final spot.

The Grizzlies are coming to this game off a win against the Miami Heat on Sunday, in which Jon Leuer was a huge contributing factor, and Marc Gasol was not. Hopefully tonight we will see the dominant, aggressive Marc Gasol that we have all come to know and love these last 6 weeks.

Both teams have had a strong start to the 2014-2015 season, and there is no question that tonight’s game will be a fun one to watch.

Tip-off is at 7 pm at the FedEx Forum, or tune in to the live broadcast on Fox Sports South.
