Your Memphis Grizzlies will be on the road facing off against the Minnesota Timberwolves Sunday afternoon.

After a dismal start to the season, the Grizzlies ground out a win against the Portland Trail Blazers in Memphis on Friday night, to break a four game losing streak.
The Timberwolves find themselves in similar straits, and will be trying to avoid being dealt a fourth straight loss. We should be in for a battle between two hungry teams.

This is a Timberwolves team that runs the gauntlet from promising, energetic young players like Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine, and Karl Anthony Towns, a guy like Ricky Rubio that’s been around a few years now, and juxtaposed by steeled league veterans Kevin Garnett and Tayshaun Prince.

Ricky Rubio is listed as questionable for tonight, and has missed the past three games due to a hamstring sprain. Zach LaVine will most likely continue starting in Rubio’s place. I must confess I have a bit of a soft spot for Zach LaVine, especially after his fantastic performance in the 2015 Slam Dunk Contest. I don’t generally plug non Grizzlies players here, but this was something special and you should give it a watch.

And for balance, here’s a throwback to bygone days, a short clip of highlights from the dunk contest that became the standard by which all future dunk contests will be measured. Why yes, I am indeed talking about Vince Carter’s performance in the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest, and you should watch it immediately. Less than 90 seconds guys, TREAT YO SELF!

For the Grizzlies, Brandan Wright is still listed as questionable and I don’t expect that to change between now and tip-off. Jordan Adams and Jarrell Martin continue to be sidelined while recovering from a right knee and left foot injury, respectively.

After an energized performance from this Grizzlies team on Friday, including big bench contributions from Jeff Green, and our most recent acquisition, Mario Chalmers, plus the re-emergence of the dominance of Marc Gasol on the court, I am looking forward to this afternoon with cautious optimism, but optimism all the same.

It looks to be an interesting match-up, and hopefully Memphis can continue to build on the momentum they generated at home on Friday, and come away with another W.
