Yesterday, the world lost a great man, longtime ESPN commentator Stuart Scott. Known for his affable demeanor and numerous catch phrases, Scott transformed the world of sports journalism with his unique style and flair.

Those of us here at All Heart In Hoop City wanted to take a moment to pay tribute to this remarkable man.

Sharon Brown:
I would stay up at night just to watch Sportscenter. I would be mad if he wasn’t on there. I loved to see him and Rich Eisen or him and Keith Olbermann. My favorite catch phrases were “Booyah” & “He must be butter because he’s on a roll.” He took us to church, to the club and other places. African Americans could finally relate to someone we saw on ESPN. He broke so many barriers and he was true. He wouldn’t change. He was who he was.
He was so inspirational in his battle with cancer. He just kept fighting. He didn’t give up! He was a fighter. He was 49 and gone too soon. My mom died at 48 from breast cancer. My heart goes out to his daughters and breaks for them. It’s hard losing a parent. But it’s good you have a very good support system.
This man was loved by many. He went through adversity and won. Godspeed Stuart. You’re as cool as the other side of the pillow!!

Aimee Stiegemeyer:
It was a sad thing indeed to wake up to the news that longtime ESPN commentator Stuart Scott had lost his battle with cancer at the age of 49. Scott took the world of sports journalism by storm, and he made it his own. He was a role model to countless young athletes and wannabe journalists, to young African American kids who for the first time could see someone on a national media outlet who looked and sounded like them.
The life and legacy of Stuart Scott will not be forgotten, nor will his influence in the world of sports journalism. My thoughts and condolences go out to his friends and loved ones, and especially to his two daughters.

Tabitha Richard:
He had the best catch phrases by far! Not only that, he was a role model in the sportscaster world. He was always true to who he was. He was open and honest about his fight with cancer; which made him an inspiration to so very many. He will without question be missed.

Jennifer Conroy:
He must be a bus driver, cause he’s taking him to school! He was always my favorite. His humor, enthusiasm, and humility were never compromised. A sportscaster that had true integrity, and was fair in his evaluation. Stuart Scott’s absence will be palpable.

Carmen Patton:
He was the quintessential sportscaster. He wasn’t an anchor on Sportscenter…he WAS Sportscenter. He was “as cool as the other side of the pillow.” He was funny and knowledgeable and made sports news interesting and fun because it was like listening to your homeboy discuss sports. He did it his way, and it worked. I remember when I first heard about him having cancer. I remember being saddened (I HATE cancer), but I also remember being encouraged by his candor about his fight and the strength that he exhibited. He was already missed, but his transition makes it real, final, permanent.
