Grizzlies Look To Sink Their Claws Into Spurs – Grizz vs Spurs Preview

On Thursday night the Grizzlies (11-8) look to take down the Spurs (15-4) in The Grindhouse in the second Hardwood Classics night of the season.  Grizz catch the Spurs on a SEGABABA as they won against the Milwaukee Bucks Wednesday night in San Antonio.  Grizz last played the Pelicans in New Orleans on Wednesday night and came away with a hard-fought victory in which Marc Gasol scored his career high of 38 points.

The last time the Grizz and Spurs met back on November 21st the Spurs kept the Grizz at bay in a 104-90 defeat.  In that game Zach Randolph and Brandan Wright were out.  Spurs big man LaMarcus Aldridge was also out.  Spurs were led in scoring by the trio of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Kawhi Leonard (a combined 51 points) while the entire Grizz starting five (Mike Conley, Marc Gasol, Tony Allen, Jeff Green, JaMychal Green) only came away with a combined 44 points.

What do the Grizzlies have to do to beat the Spurs?

*Aggressive Big Spain must show up.  The Marc Gasol from Wednesday’s game is the Gasol that we need to see in this game.  We shouldn’t necessarily expect the 38 point performance from Wednesday, but Gasol MUST be aggressive and assert himself in this game.

*Matt Barnes must continue to show the effort and grit that fans hated when he played against us.  The shooting will follow.

*Defend the 3point line.  The Grizz must have their antennae up at all times and stick to their defensive principles.  Matt Barnes, Tony Allen, and Courtney Lee must be on point every moment that they are on the floor.

*Don’t let the Spurs run away in the rebound game.  The Grizz are currently 21st in the league in rebounding while the Spurs are in 3rd place.  Grizz must hit the boards hard because you know Spurs will.  LaMarcus Aldridge is currently #17 in the league on the boards averaging 9.2rpg.

*Make your shots!!!  The Grizz are ranked 23rd in field goal percentage (averaging 97.1ppg with a 42.7fg%) this season while the Spurs are ranked 3rd (averaging 98.6ppg with a 46.5fg%).  The Spurs will more often than not make their shots and if they have any hope of sinking their claws into the Spurs, the Grizzlies must be aggressive and make their shots.

Make sure you get to the arena early tonight to get your own Hardwood Classics night Sounds tacky holiday tee!
