“Don’t give us none of your aggravation
We had it with your discipline
Saturday night’s alright for fighting
Get a little action in”- Sir Elton John

I may use a little muscle to get what I need

“I may use a little muscle to get what I need.”- Sir Elton John, Marc Gasol (probably)

Final Score: Memphis- 103, New York- 95

It was another Hardwood Classics nights at FedEx Forum, and as such it was your crimson-clad Memphis Sounds that did battle against the New York Knicks Saturday night.

Leading the charge to victory was the Bluff City’s beloved Spanish knight, Marc Gasol, and his game high 37 points, on 15-29 shooting(!!!!!!!).

Big Spain is back

Big Spain is back

Gasol’s struggles on the court this season have been well-documented, but Saturday night the former All-Star big man came out with a fight, and made his 7’1″ presence felt on both ends of the floor.

Oh what, y’all thought I was going to talk about someone else fighting?

Nah.

Whatever the narrative was before, the outstanding performance of Marc Gasol and this Grizzlies team should be the takeaway from the meeting between these two teams.

And Kristaps Porzingis is easily my favorite rookie in the league right now, he is so much fun to watch.  I don’t generally offer praise for non-Grizzlies players here, but I have no shame in saying I am excited to see how Porzingis develops in the next few years.

By The Numbers:

Grizzlies:

A Few Things:
Marc Gasol EVERYTHING.

Every. Damn. Thing. Gasol took TWENTY-NINE shots. This is the effort the Grizzlies desperately need him to provide on a regular basis. I’m afraid that might be wishful thinking though if he keeps playing 40+ minutes a night. The match-up between him and Knicks rookie Kristaps Porzingis was fun to watch, I don’t care who you are.

Jeff Green did Good Things!

and put the ball in the basket a lot. Got benched for playing lousy, drop 18 from the bench? Sure! I’m here for it.

I’m just going to leave this right here…

That Jeff Green Dunk Tho

With the assist from Marc Gasol. Yeah I’m giving Uncle Jeff two lines, because I can. A jam that nasty deserves its own recognition.

Mama here comes that man again!

Tony Allen was slick all up in Aron Afflalo’s kool-aid.

We saw a little bit of Trick or Treat TA action, but the Grindfather delivered more than he didn’t. His offensive contribution may seem paltry, but he made up for it on the defensive end.

FIRST TEAM ALL DEFENSE

Zach Randolph posting up on Kristaps Porzingis– there was something a little magical about it. You gon’ learn today, son.

And get off Zbo's lawn.

And get off Zbo’s lawn.

Mario Chalmers is fast becoming one of my favorite Grizzlies. He’s not a replacement for Mike Conley by any means, but he has stepped up in a big way in Conley’s absence. His presence has been felt on both ends of the court. Chalmers brings a whole different kind of attitude, a certain swagger that is contagious among the team and fans alike. Plus, hearing Pete Pranica say “Rio for Trio” will probably never get old.
