Recap: Revenge of the Grizzlies, Total Eclipse of the Suns; Preview: Grizzlies vs Lakers

Here’s another double-header for you, with a recap of last night’s game against Phoenix and a brief preview of tonight’s game against the Lakers.

Final Score: Memphis- 103, Phoenix- 97

Your Memphis Grizzlies took their talents to Phoenix last night to exact some much deserved revenge on the Suns, and came away with a much needed win to boot.

The last two meetings between these teams saw the Grizzlies losing both the game and two players indefinitely to injuries suffered during the game. Which is not to say the Suns were the cause of the aforementioned injuries, but for this bruised and battered Memphis team, any win is a good win.

A Few Things:

Lance Stephenson continues to look more and more like he was Born Ready for the Grizzlies. Anyone doubting whether or not Memphis should pick up Stephenson’s option should go watch the 4th quarter of this Phoenix game a few times.

Check out this potentially game-winning block in the final seconds of the game last night by Zach Randolph. Yes, you read that correctly, the Grizzlies hammered the nail in this one off a ZBo block. In 2016. What a time to be alive!

And Memphis Twitter was here for it:

We got our first look at yet another new addition to the Grizzlies roster, Jordan Farmar, as the front office tries desperately to plug some holes in a team that is already cobbled together with sticks and string at this point. It was a promising start, with Farmar ending the night with 12 points and 3 rebounds.

Apropos of nothing, but Farmar is the 3rd former Los Angeles Clipper to play on this Memphis team this season.

So, how about that Ray McCallum fellow, huh? McCallum finished the night with 9 points and a team high 7 assists. The Grizzlies officially announced earlier today that McCallum had been signed to a second 10-day contract with Memphis. I’ve learned the hard way not to get attached to D-League call-ups and 10-day guys, (*pours one out for the homies Russ Smith and Briante Weber*) but I certainly appreciated his contributions against the Clippers on Saturday (14 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists), and against the Suns last night.

Especially this clutch shot in the 2nd half:

Did you forget who was First Team All-Defense?

There’s no rest for these weary bears- The Grizzlies will be in Los Angeles tonight to take on the Lakers at the Staples Center, in a nationally-televised game airing on TNT.

The magic number of wins remaining for Memphis to be guaranteed a playoff spot is six, and with the end of the season schedule being as brutal as it is for this Grizzlies team, stacking up wins where and while they can is imperative.

On one hand, you’ve got an already short-handed Memphis team on their second night of a back to back, and on the other, it’s the Lakers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is going to be a late night for Grizzlies fans, so grab a disco nap or make some coffee, or both. Just be ready to watch ZBo, Born Ready, and the rest of this Goon Squad face off against the Lakers at 9:30PM CST.

What: Memphis Grizzlies vs Los Angeles Lakers

Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California

When: 9:30PM CST Tuesday, March 22, 2016
