Recap: Grizzlies v Suns + Preview: Grizzlies v OKC

This past Sunday, your Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Phoenix Suns, 95-93. In order to keep my cheerful disposition, I am choosing to focus on the outcome rather than most of the actual game play. Except that last play, that was the business.

Despite it being a game with 13 lead changes, where both teams held a ten point lead at one point, the outcome was decided in the final .5 seconds of regulation play. Mad props to Coach Joerger for drawing up an amazing play, and mad props to Courtney Lee and Jeff Green for executing it successfully. Lee in-bounded to Green, who threw down the nastiest of dunks on former Grizzly Jon Leuer. The sheer awesomeness of that final play alone is allowing me to momentarily overlook some of the defensive lapses that plagued Memphis in this game.

R.I.P. Johnny Badger

This is the second time now that Courtney Lee has been a part of a game winning play for the Grizzlies with less than a second left on the game clock. Even without the final play the Grizzlies still got a fantastic overall game from Lee, who finished the night with 18pts on 7-12 shooting, including 2-2 from beyond the three point line, and 2-2 from the free throw line.

Looks like C Lee got his swagger back.

Marc Gasol lead the Grizzlies in scoring, with 22pts, 7 rebounds. All of the Grizzlies starters scored in double digits, save for one, Tony Allen. TA finished the night scoreless, as did Vince Carter. Mike Conley had 12pts, and Zach Randolph and Jeff Green both had 10pts apiece. Mario Chalmers finished with 11pts, Matt Barnes with 5, and JaMychal Green with 7. As per the usual lately, there was a solid effort from the bench.

Here is hoping the this Memphis team can propel some of that momentum into another win, in their match tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder. It’s a home game, and tip-off is at 7PM.
