Recap: An Ugly Night in Detroit

The first half of last night’s game in Detroit was all grit & grind. The Grizz fell hard in the second half and ultimately lost 105-95. At the end of the first half, Grizzlies were up 54-39. Marc & Zach were already in double-digits and the game in Detroit was looking like an easy win. We were 46.3% in field goals to Detroit’s 33.3%. Defense was strong. The Grizzlies had 5 steals and 23 rebounds headed into halftime.

Then something happened.

The Grizzlies allowed the Pistons to score 66 points in the Second half, compared to Grizzlies 44. The guys were frustrated. Jeff Green was the only Grizzlies player with any significant contribution in the second half, with 16 points.

Marc & Zach are the leaders of this team, especially with Mike Conley gone. They gave up and got frustrated, just as they did in New Orleans.

Some notes:
Zach Randolph scored only 2 points in the entire second half
Grizzlies are now 5-5 in March
We are now only 1.5 games ahead of both Houston and Portland

Coach Joerger’s face says it all:

Needless to say, hopefully Mike will be back Friday. The next two games are must-wins. Both teams are playoff contenders, and both teams are fighting for a better seed. If the Grizz can come back and beat Dallas & Portland this weekend, maybe GrizzNation will get some confidence back.
