Not another injury.

Grizzlies Suffer Big Time in Bean Town

The Memphis Grizzlies went to Boston to face the Celtics banged up and injured living high off of a win in Cleveland on Monday where they had only 8 active players.  They managed to go from the Hateful Eight to what looked like the Notorious Nine (insert Matt Barnes) for about 30 minutes and then the unthinkable happened…the Grizzlies lost yet another player to injury.  Grizzlies PG Mario Chalmers went down with a right foot injury.  The Grizzlies were down by just 3 points when Chalmers went down; the score was 64-61.  The Celtics went on to outscore the Grizzlies 52-35 from there.  The final score of the game was 116-96.

Positive Points of the Game:

JaMychal Green became the first Grizzlies player this season to have a double-double before halftime.  Green ended the game tying his career high points and exceeding his career high rebounds with 17 points (6-of-12 shooting), 13 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 assists in 36 minutes of play.

Rookie Jarell Martin scored more points in this game than he has all season.  Martin ended the game creating a career high of 16 points (7-of-10 shooting), 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block in 23 minutes of play.

Team veteran, Vince Carter, got it going from three after the morale had been depleted following Chalmers’ injury.  Carter ended the game with 17 points (5-of-9 shooting; 4-of-6 from three), with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block in 27 minutes of play.

Despite their frontcourt deficiencies, the Grizzlies managed to get 10 more rebounds than the Celtics (48-38).

Though they only made 32 shots, they shared the ball for the most part, assisting on 20 of those 32.

What Now?

The Grizzlies had only 9 players available for the match-up against the Celtics.  With Chalmers now on the injured list, that leaves them with 8 players available, with no real point guard among that 8.  Chalmers will be evaluated upon their return to Memphis to assess his injury and how it will affect the rest of what was becoming a nice contract year for him.  He had to be rolled out of TD Garden in a wheelchair with crutches in tow per Ron Tillery of The Commercial Appeal.

Zach Randolph was DNP (did not play)-Coach’s Decision on Wednesday, so perhaps he will return on Friday night against the New Orleans Pelicans.  He rested on Monday due to knee soreness.

Mike Conley, nor Chris Andersen traveled with the team.  Their status for Friday is unknown.

Marc Gasol, Brandan Wright and Jordan Adams are all inactive.

With just 18 games left in the season, the Grizzlies roster is terribly depleted as they try to hold on to their 5th seed in the Western Conference.  The Front Office is likely making and taking calls to try to keep their heads above the water as teams battle for playoff spots.  The Grizzlies have a tough road ahead of them, but all hope isn’t lost.

Come out and support the home team on Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans at 7 p.m. before they head out on the road again!
