Grizz vs Kings Recap / Grizz vs Jazz Preview

The Memphis Grizzlies (35-24) took on the Sacramento Kings (24-34) Wednesday night in the Grindhouse.  Memphis started Matt Barnes, Zach Randolph, Chris Andersen, PJ Hairston, and Mike Conley.  Sacramento started Omri Casspi, Quincy Acy, DeMarcus Cousins, Ben McLemore, and Rajon Rondo.  Tony Allen was out for the Grizz for the 6th game in a row with a sore left knee.  Rudy Gay (right shoulder strain) and Seth Curry (right foot strain) did not play for the Kings.

P.J. Hairston continued to play with energy. He had the first basket of the game and took it to the rim. The man is good at drawing fouls around the rim.  Hairston finished the night with 6 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, and 2 turnovers.  We would all like to forget this Shaqtin’ A Fool moment though…

Zach Randolph finished the night with 19 points and 8 boards.  That old-man game was on point.

Chris Andersen finished with 10 points on 50% shooting and had 6 rebounds. Grizzilla it is…and if you haven’t listened to the Birdman, I mean, Grizzilla interview on Vernon, do it now.

Mike Conley played like #MaxContractConley on Wednesday night. He ended the night with 24 points on 9-12 shooting, was 3-3 from beyond the arc, had 5 assists, and 3 steals.  Clutch Conley indeed.

JaMychal Green continues to put in work and do his thing. He put in a 15 point (5-7) night. Energy, heart, and hustle are integral parts of his game and will be exactly what keeps him on the court.

Vince Carter only had 4 points, but for this reverse alley-oop…I’ll take it.

Mario Chalmers was great (15 points and 4 assists).  Who doesn’t love to see Rio and Conley on the floor together?

I would be remiss to not mention the meaningful (NOT GARBAGE TIME!!!!) minutes that Jarell Martin played.  In just over 10 minutes, Martin had 2 points and 8 rebounds to go along with 1 blocked shot. Martin is a young player that the Grizzlies really should allow to develop. His season has been derailed by his injury, but the fact that Gasol and Brandan Wright are both out will hopefully allow Martin to get some time on the court to turn that raw talent into a piece for the Grizzlies future.

As for the Kings, even without Marc Gasol, the Grizzlies managed to goad DeMarcus Cousins into 5 personal fouls. Boogie ended with 18 points and 16 boards.  Memphis, as usual, had trouble with Darren Collison (17 points) and Marco Belinelli (16 points).

Who: Memphis Grizzlies vs Utah Jazz

When: Friday, March 4th, 7PM CST

How to Watch/Listen: Fox Sports Southeast, 92.9 ESPN Memphis

When the Grizzlies take on the Utah Jazz on Friday night, they might again be without the services of the Grindfather, Tony Allen.  In Coach Dave Joerger’s pregame quotes on Wednesday, Joerger stated that there is no real timetable for Allen’s return.  He did state that Allen is progressing in his rehab and his high level of conditioning is a positive for Allen’s eminent return.  Jazz’s Rodney Hood is not on the injury report for tonight’s game, so he will likely play.  Memphis has been out-rebounded by Utah in the two games this season 97-84, which is a huge part of the two losses this season.  If they have any hope of coming away with a win, Memphis must buckle down and slow the fast-moving Jazz.  The fact that they have upped their offensive game from 83ppg in the two previous meetings this season with the Jazz to 105.8ppg in their last five games bodes well for the Grizzlies as their offense is starting to click a bit.

Friday gives us another installment in the Mount Grizzmore series featuring our very own Zach Randolph.  Be one of the first 5,000 people to get there!

The Adidas Item of the game is this sweet Grizz cap.
