Dribbles on Grizzlies loss to Raptors in Toronto

1) One thing that stood is that the Grizzlies didn’t have a lack of effort. Late in the fourth quarter, they fell short. “The focus and the effort, it was there, asserted Tony Allen. “Considering the fact we had nine players, not that much experience, we fought hard.” Coach Fizdale also was pleased with his team’s effort. “The effort was fantastic”, he said.

2) Andrew Harrison posted a career-high 21 points along with four assists and three steals. Harrison shot 7-of-12 from the field and converted on four three pointers.

3) Harrison has an enormous amount of confidence in himself. Harrison explained his mindset during the game, “just like any other game, to win.  I know we were shorthanded but we have a bunch of guys on the team and we all believe that we could win this game.”

4) Harrison also took some of the responsibility when the game became out of control. He conveyed, “I think we just, it’s something that’s on me, getting into sets, getting into plays, not getting shots, turnovers. Having a stretch of three, four, five turnovers in a row, that really hurt us and they took advantage and made some big shots.”

5) Harrison also knows what has to be done in Conley’s absence. He reiterated, “Losing Mike (Conley) was big, he’s an MVP candidate in my eyes, but we know what we have to do, we have to bring it every night.”

6) Troy Daniels finally came out of his shooting slump. This was his first solid performance as a member of the Grizzlies. Daniels had a season high 19 points while going 4-of-8 from the three point line.

7) Demar Derozan and Kyle Lowry combined for 53 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds to help the Raptors secure the win.

8) The Raptors bench was too much for the Grizzlies bench. They outscored the Grizzlies bench 40-28. Corey Joseph contributed 16 points and Patrick Patterson chipped in 14 points as reserves.

9) JaMychal Green had a season high five steals to go along with 16 points and five rebounds. Green stays ready when he is called upon.

10) Troy Williams continues to impress as he receives more playing time. He finished with 10 points and three steals. Foul trouble limited his playing time to 27 minutes.

11) Marc Gasol showed tremendous leadership for this short handed team. Gasol tallied 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

12) The Grizzlies have a chance to regroup tonight against the Orlando Magic on their home floor. Tip-Off is at 7pm CST.
