Thoughts on the Grizzlies loss to the Hornets

1) It wasn’t the Grizzlies night from the tip-off. Coach Fizdale said, “I looked at the numbers and we were like 1-for-10 around 2 feet and out.” He went on to say, “I liked our three point looks, we just didn’t knock down shots tonight and we let it affect our defense. When we missed so many consecutive shots, we broke down defensively and let it go defensively.”

2) Jarell Martin posted his first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.

3) Marc Gasol, JaMychal Green and Coach Fizz each received a technical foul in the third quarter.

4) Kemba Walker is a great player. He went 5-of-8 from the field and ended with 21 points and four assists.

5) Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies in points with 19. Gasol connected on 2-of-4 of his three point shots.

6) The free throw disparity was telling. The Hornets with to the free throw line an astounding 31 times, while the Grizzlies only went 13.

7) Jeremy Lamb continues to be a great player off the bench for the Hornets. Lamb scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

8) Mike Conley amassed 14 points and five assists before he was injured in the the third quarter. He left the game and didn’t returned.

9) Conley is out for up to six weeks according to Grind City Media’s Mike Wallace:

10) The Grizzlies are without Chandler Parsons, Brandan Wright, James Ennis and now Mike Conley. Zach Randolph is still out due to personal reasons (death of his mother). It looks grim for the Grind City. But Marc Gasol believes the Grizzlies will be fine. “As long as I have four other guys to play with, and they are committed and are going to play hard and trust everything else out there, then we are going to be fine,” said Gasol.

11) It’s time for the young guys to know their roles and step up. They have to work within the offense and play hard on defense. Marc Gasol in many instances is the best player on the floor and there should never be a point in which he shouldn’t touch the ball on offense.

12) Coach Fizz and company have been dealt a severe blow with the injury to Mike Conley. How will the team respond? Who will step up to take the load in Conley’s absence?

13) Marc Gasol has to carry the load until Zbo is ready to come back. This will be his time to shine. Will Big Spain answer the call?
