Post Game Quotes

Grizzlies 87, Jazz 92 (OT)

David Joerger – Head Coach

On Memphis’ problems offensively

“Well, we couldn’t shoot over the top. You know, they have got size guys that are going to shoot over the top of you. We struggled to get shots off, but we got shots. Marc (Gasol) got shots, Mike (Conley) got looks; it was just one of those nights. (Going) 14-of-26 from the foul line on the road, that’s not acceptable. That’s just not being ready to play.”

Mike Conley – Guard (15 points, 4 assists)

On the Jazz missing key players

“We approached the game the same. They have a team full of guys that work hard, play hard and they are well coached. When you allow guys to get hot and confident, any team is tough. Rodney Hood had a good night tonight among other guys.”

On expecting a physical battle

“We always expect it to be physical. They are a very physical team. Very good defensively. We expected that. It was one of those nights we shot ourselves in the foot in different areas of the game. I think we should have made more free throws and we had good looks at the end of the game. At the end of the day you have to take your hat off to them.”

On Memphis looking for an identity

“I thought we played well for stretches. Like he [Marc Gasol] said, we are still trying to find it consistently. We want to know who are down the stretch and who we are going forward. The more and more you wait, the longer it takes to find that identity to be successful. Time is ticking and we just have to continue to push.”

Marc Gasol – Center (20 points, 7 rebounds)

On his last shot in regulation

“Yeah, I had a good look. I didn’t get my feet right. I couldn’t believe I was that wide open, then I kind of rushed it a little bit on my release and it didn’t go in, obviously.”

On if they were complacent

“It had nothing to do with energy. It was more us not finding a way or the way we want to play. We still haven’t decided how we’re going to play. Are we going to be more of a handoff team, or pick-and-roll guys? Are we going to be more inside-out? We haven’t found our identity yet of what we want to do on offense, but that cannot take away from our defense. We still have to be, defensively, the team we need to be in order to win games.”

Quin Snyder – Head Coach

On being short handed

“I think the thing that stands out is the grit, they played with passion. There was not one guy that didn’t give every part of himself to the game and it’s hard to do that all the time but we sure did it tonight and I’m glad the end result reflected that.”

On Tibor Pleiss

“What he did tonight is pretty impressive. It’s hard to not know if you’re going to play, to be in and out. When he was out there he competed I loved that he turned and shot the ball and then he turned and shot the ball again, it made me smile because there was a courage about the way he played he looked really comfortable. ”

Rodney Hood – Guard (32 points, 8 rebounds)

On his game

“I just had to be aggressive. We really wanted this game. We defended them well. They were on the run, we knew we had to grind it out. I just wanted to be aggressive and help my team out anyway I could.”

On Trevor Booker in overtime

“He was huge, he is our anchor. He is a tough guy and we needed that. We were in the same position at OKC, when we were in overtime and we let up. Today we just pulled it out. We gutted it out at home.”

On the confidence from the win

“It’s big, it’s big. We have guys banged up right now. We just want to get as many wins as we can. We pulled it together as a team with a lot of young guys, so it feels good to win against a great team.”

Tibor Pleiss – Center (6 points, 6 rebounds)

On the win

“This is a great feeling, we played as a team together. Everybody put 100 percent on the court. It was a really important team win, really important to beat a high-end team in the NBA.”

On his game

“I am really thankful for the minutes, I tried to give it everything on the ends. To me the most important thing is that we won.”

On playing against Marc Gasol

“We played already against each other during the European championship, it was funny to play against him one more time. I am really happy that we won today”

Gordon Hayward – Forward (14 points, 5 rebounds)

On where the team is right now

“It’s been an up and down season for us. We have had some really good wins, like tonight. Some bad losses, that happens when you have a young team, still super young. We’re gaining experiences, learning from things. So I think we would like to be in a better position, but we are a better team now than we were at the beginning of the season and that is all you can ask for.”
