Pre Game Quotes: Grizzlies at Jazz

Quin Snyder – Jazz Head Coach

On the lineup if Derrick Favors plays

“Well, I mean there are lots of ways to do it. It’s why you’re asking the question. Both Trey [Lyles] and Book [Trevor Booker] have played well at the four. We had Fav [Derrick Favors] at the quote-unquote five a lot when Rudy [Gobert] went out. Now when Fav has been out, [Jeff] Withey has done a good job as well. It’s good to have some different options. A lot of it can depend on who is playing well, foul trouble, a lot of things. We don’t consider Derrick a five anyway. Sometimes with what we do offensively, our bigs are pretty much interchangeable. On the defensive end, we can cross match and do things like that too if we want to play around with it. It’s something I think this team makes you do. Anything you give them – they react to each other and adjust so well on the fly that they are able to find areas of weakness.”

On if they have adjusted to being without Alec Burks

“I think it’s a combination of Alec and Fav [Derrick Favors] and Rudy [Gobert]. We talk a lot about offensive style and pace and those things. I’ve maintained that I think what you do offensively is largely reflective of who you have. If Chris Paul is your point guard, you’re going to play a lot of pick-and-roll. The ball is going to be in his hands. You’re probably going to play less with the pass. In our case, we have been a team that has offensive rebounded and moved the ball and attacked that way. I think we lead the league in three-point attempts since Derrick has been out. It’s very descriptive of what we feel we have to do to be successful offensively. How Derrick impacts that when he comes back remains to be seen. It’s not something you look for and play to, but often times as a coach those are things you figure out with your team.”

On Zach Randolph coming off the bench some games this season

“I think it changes some of your matchups. He’s such a difficult one because of his strength and his ability to score on the block. There are times teams have put bigger guys on him and doubled on [Marc] Gasol and done things like that. We have got some ideas, but I think it’s something where you wait until the game starts.”

David Joerger – Grizzlies Head Coach

On the play of Mike Conley

“He is feeling better physically. He is also shooting the basketball better. I think one helps the other, whatever side you want to look at first. They are both happening – feeling better physically, seeing the ball go in. He has shot the basketball very well. He’s done that as long as I’ve been here with him, since he’s been in the league and I’ve been in the league. He’ll go on three or four week stretches, where we are very tough to beat when he’s shooting the basketball well. We’re not raining down 25 threes a night, so the ones that we get are valuable and for him to make, is maybe a bigger deal for us then it is for other teams.”

On their play since the trade

“There are times where we can play two point guards and it gives us more play making and takes a little stress off Mike [Conley]. Get Mike on the move instead of out there in front of God and everybody pounding the basketball and everybody can key in on him, where he is a little more difficult to guard on the move. I think it is good for him and good for us.
