Tonight your Memphis Grizzlies return home from a two game road trip to face-off against the New Orleans Pelicans. This will be the last meeting of these two teams for the season, and so far the Grizzlies are 3-0 against the Pelicans this year.  A win tonight would give Memphis a sweep of the season series, and a much needed morale boost for the team and fans alike.

The Grizzlies are coming off a disheartening loss in Boston on Wednesday night, which came on the heels of an amazing and completely surprising victory over the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Monday.

It was the Celtics game during which Mario Chalmers suffered what we would later learn was a ruptured Achilles tendon.  Subsequently, it was announced yesterday that Chalmers would be waived from the team, to free up a much needed roster spot with a healthy body.

Battered and Bruised Bears

To call this a depleted Grizzlies squad would be quite possibly the understatement of the year. The loss of Chalmers was yet another blow to the team, which has been plagued by injuries throughout the season: Marc Gasol and Brandan Wright are both out for the season, Mike Conley is listed as out indefinitely, Zach Randolph is still listed as being day-to-day, and Chris Andersen suffered a shoulder injury in last Sunday’s game against Phoenix, with no timetable for his return.

It’s hard to make any predictions at this point, as expectations were already blown to bits with the news that Gasol would be out the remainder of the season. The host of injuries that have occurred since then make it almost impossible to guess what might happen down the stretch.

For now, all they can do is take it one game at a time.
