Takeaways

This was a great win for the Grizzlies and I loved almost every minute up. Before the game even started, I saw some of my fellow writers counting the Grizzlies out because of the Clippers previous games and statistics. I am glad they are eating crow this morning.

The offense was better and at times they were clicking on both ends of the court. The line-up of Carter, Green, Randolph, Harrison and Ennis should never happen again. That was disastrous and I am glad we didn’t have to see it any longer!!

Mike Conley, Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph were all studs in this game. The Big Three combined for 74 points, 18 rebounds and 15 assists. If the Grizzlies continue to get that type of production from the three continually, they will have a great season ahead of them.

Revenge is oh so sweet!!

What They Said!!!

GRIZZLES HEAD COACH DAVID FIZDALE

Re: Playing tough games

“We are getting used to it. We had an incredible way of blowing leads, but, like I said always, this team has so much character. When things go wrong, we find a way to collect ourselves and dig in, and it’s just another example of it tonight.”

Re: Improvement of team

“It is off the court stuff, first. We are really starting to become more connected as a group, that’s what the road does for you. You are away from your family, you are away from everybody, it is just you out there, and guys are really starting to bond. You can see it in the way we work when we get on the court, the way we are starting to communicate to each other. Nobody is personalizing things, we are just getting better.”

Re: Best four quarters of the season?

“We had three, we had three pretty good quarters against an amazing team. I can’t say enough about Doc Rivers, his staff, his basketball team. They are legitimate contenders for the title, and they are just going to be a problem for teams all year.”

GRIZZLIES CENTER MARC GASOL

Re: Beating team with the best record in the NBA

“It’s not so much about beating them, and how you feel about beating the Clippers, it is more about we need it as a team to keep growing and to keep building that trust, and we continue to do that. We had a quality win in Utah, I think at Milwaukee we had a disappointing loss, so you know the last two games we’ve done a much better job of trusting the guy next to us, and communicating and playing through mistakes, staying positive. Obviously, Mike [Conley] is helping me stay through a lot of mistakes we make that we shouldn’t be making. We stay in the moment and it’s been good so far.”

Re: Clippers late run

“That is basketball, basketball is a game of runs. You have leads, they make a run, and it happens. It’s how you react to those teams that matters. I thought we stayed where we can play down with the Clippers, we made the right plays, and we are lucky the ball went in.”

GRIZZLIES POINT GUARD MIKE CONLEY

Re: Breaking Clippers’ winning streak

“This was a huge win. It was a great win to get on the road. We are building off a loss in the beginning of our road trip Milwaukee, then going to Utah and having a good game, then coming here to win, building off a win to Utah is huge. They are the best team in the league right now, I think the Clippers are, the way they’ve playing early on, so for us to get a signature win like this is huge.”

Re: Biggest change in tonight’s win from previous games

“Our defense is the biggest difference between the last two games – our effort and the commitment to the defensive end, I think we kind of lost sight of that a little bit trying to run a shoot threes and be offensive that we lost a little bit of our identity defensively. I thought the last few games we’ve done a good job of just trying to get back to what we do best.”
