Takeaways

This game was hard to watch at times and was an ultimate clank feast at the beginning. Good games for both Chandler Parsons and Tony Allen. Both are recovering from injuries and it was nice to see both have solid games.

The Grizzlies played awesome defense. For the game, they had an downright impressive defensive rating 73.4. That’s very remarkable.

They still have things to work out on offense but I am encouraged.

What They Said!!!

Memphis Head Coach David Fizdale

In the second half, what was the difference in you guys scoring points?

“We stopped being friendly. If you watched the first quarter, everybody was having conversations with the other team like they were all pals. And we don’t have the luxury to be buddies. I think we took it light like thinking they didn’t have their players, but this [Mavericks] is an NBA team with NBA players. We didn’t show them respect by playing like that. So, I got after them pretty good and they came out in the second half and got after it.”

Some might consider it a step back offensively, but defensively you’re continuing to play well…

“Yeah, I was happy to see our defense. I always tell the guys ‘our defense will travel.’ Your offense don’t always get on the plane with you. But our defense was really stingy tonight. I thought JaMychal [Green] really battled Harrison [Barnes]. Like I said before, Harrison is a franchise player. And, again, JaMychal takes the challenge on a guy and does an incredible job, and he’s just starting to build a great reputation as a top-notch defender

Memphis Guard Tony Allen

On tonight’s game

“It felt good being around the guys. I thought coming off the bench was a great way to get my feet wet. Guys like (Memphis forward) Zac Randolph were just encouraging me to go out there and play hard and just try to fill in wherever I can. It felt great being out there with the guys.”

On his recovery

“We’ll have to wait and see how I feel tomorrow. I thought I did a good job of icing and stretching. I’ll get some rest tonight and see how I feel tomorrow.”

On Memphis’s defensive play

“I think we hold our hats on the defensive end at the end of the day. Not every night is going to be pretty, it’s not going to be electrifying. But if you hold your hat on the defensive end, you put yourself in a good chance of winning ball games. I thought we capitalized on the spots today and we were able to get a lead through our defense.”
