That is how I want you to remember this game. Not that we were down 18 with 7:35 left in the 4th. Not that the 76ers bench outscored the Grizzlies 40 to 21. Not that when Hollis Thompson hit the 2 free throws with 0:04 left it felt like the end. Instead, remember Mike icing this 3.

The Memphis Grizzlies showed us their mental toughness yet again. Despite playing double overtime the night before the starters took over the game, led by Mike Conley, and found a way to grind out a win. Mike Conley finished the game with a career high 36 points, 16 of which were scored in the 4Q. Mike played 42 minutes, finishing the game 5/9 from beyond the arc and registering 9 assists. Conley shot 8 for 11, that’s a serious 72.7%, in the fourth and OT combined. Conley truly put his overtime in and kept his team alive long enough to claw their way back for the win.

Mike was not the only starter to come through for the night. Zach spent 33 minutes on the floor and recorded yet another double double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 71.4% through the fourth quarter and overtime. Marc Gasol and Courtney Lee both played 37 minutes, scoring 18 point and 19 points. Courtney Lee contributed to the Grizzlies comeback scoring 2 of his 3 three point makes in the 4th.

Three point shooting was a huge contributing factor to the Grizzlies comeback win. Despite heading into the second half at 2 of 10 from the 3 point line, the Grizzlies finished the game 11 of 26, registering 9 of 14 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Vince Carter’s three pointer contribution for the night (granted it was only 2/8) put him past Chauncey Billups for 6th in the NBA. The Grizzlies also stepped up defensively. They recorded 6 of their 9 total steals during the fourth and in overtime.

As grind-worthy as the Grizzlies played in the 4th, the 76ers fell apart just as hard. Between the 4th quarter and overtime the 76ers shot 38.1% (that’s mostly because they went 1 for 8 in overtime-OUCH!). They also turned the ball over 8 times, getting almost half of their 17 total team turnovers during the 4th and OT.  The 76ers are still a very young team and when the game was on the line, it showed.

The Grizzlies now head home and get 3 days of rest before facing the number one team in the NBA. The Splash Brothers and the rest of the Golden State Warriors will be in the Grindhouse Wednesday night. Start getting ready now because the Number 1 and Number 2 teams going head to head is going to be a game to remember.
