Whoop that Clip: Clippers flop their way into Memphis

The Grizzlies will take on their most hated rivals the LA Clippers for the second time this week. The two teams met Monday night at the Staples Center in LA. Grizzlies pulled off a close victory 90-87. Coming off a disappointing loss to the Kings on Wednesday night, left a bad taste in the mouth of this team. Will the Grind to Greatness continue for the Grizzlies? Or will they have yet another disappointing setback?

Highlights from the game February 23, 2015

Game Thoughts

1) Marc Gasol should have the ball more. He has to take more shots and the offense probably should go through him when he’s on the floor.

2) This goes without saying; the Grizzlies need an aggressive Courtney Lee. He really needs to show UP! The offense need the offensive assassin we saw earlier in the season.

3)  Grizzlies need to protect the 3 point line and not gamble on defense. Players need to play man to man and not leave shooters open for wide open threes. No help defense that causes shooters to be left open.

4) I expect to see the Tony Allen Effect and the Nick Calathes Aftermath off the bench.

5) Chris Paul took the loss very badly Monday night. He will be on a mission to avenge that loss. Conley was having trouble guarding him in the first half of the last game. Joerger need to put a bigger defender on him. Courtney Lee, Tony Allen and Jeff Green should take turns guarding him. Grizzlies should be prepared for him to go off. He was a one man army on Monday night and I expect him to do the same tonight.

6) The Grizzlies should start their offense inside out. They need to be more focused on getting buckets in the paint which is their bread and butter. They can get Clippers big men in foul trouble early, if they attack the paint more. Jeff Green is good at attacking the paint.

7) Jeff Green, Courtney Lee and Mike Conley have to be proficient from the 3 point line. Especially since Marc and Zbo will be doubled teamed.

8) Coach Joerger has experimented with different line ups in the last 3 games. Hopefully, the line ups he put together will work more smoothly. The Grizzlies bench is excellent defensively, but they need to be better offensively. They frustrate the opponents’ offensive flow; however, they have to get going better offensively themselves. Where’s Beno? His offense has been missing lately.

9) Zbo once again, need to be a double, double machine!! The team needs he to be First name 20, last name 10. The Grindhouse will go nuts if he hits one of these yet again..

10) The Grindhouse will be loud tonight. I want to hear the thunderous roar on TV. I expect this to be a playoff atmosphere. GrizzNation loathe the Clippers; those of us that will be watching on TV will hear the disdain on the broadcast.

Analysis

The Grizzlies don’t want to lose 2 games in a row and it would leave a bad taste in their mouth to lose to the Clippers. It will be a hard fought game. But WHOOP THAT CLIP!!
