Grizzlies Head Coach Dave Joerger:

On the win and individual performances:

“I don’t know what other people say, but we’re in there, slapping each other on the back because New Orleans has been playing very well. They found a rhythm and during this home stand, they’ve been playing very well. For us to, after the technical, I don’t know what the score was at that point, after Ryan Anderson made the free throw, Mike Conley got everybody together (and said) ‘let’s get this together, let’s go’ and then in the last six minutes of the game we go twenty four and six. Put up a good run. The ball movement was fantastic. The defense was really solid. We got performances up and down the line. I don’t know that Tony Allen had as great an offensive game, but I thought he did a great job when I put him on Jrue Holiday who is a big key for them in what he’s been doing in the last six games. I love Holiday’s game. I’ve always thought a lot of him. Vince Carter made some shots. Jeff Green was solid again, all night long. He did a good job, defensively. Zach (Randolph) was very engaged also and it’s a tough matchup for Zach having to chase Ryan Anderson at times. Zach did a great job getting out on the pick-and-rolls. Sometimes it’s really easy for us to take Marc (Gasol) and Mike (Conley) for granted. Marc, patrolling the lane, getting blocked shots, just being a linebacker for our defense, was just tremendous as well. Good team win for us and feel really good about it.

On the defensive effort in the stretch after the technical foul:

“I thought we got back in front of the ball better. They were turning the corners because we were worried about Ryan Anderson slipping out and Anthony Davis at the rim so you don’t want to get out on a line and give too much help to the ball, but I thought Tony (Allen) really fought back in front of the basketball great. He got a couple of fouls, but Mike Conley tried to save him as many minutes as possible and you play with fire without him on the floor. He came in and was just terrific.”

Grizzlies Guard/Forward Vince Carter:

On the performance during the last six minutes:

“We got rolling by taking the shot that was there and not breaking up the defense. We got up and down the court well and kept the defense guessing, which I think was the biggest key.”

On the team building a reputation of winning close games in the fourth quarter:

“Despite our success tonight I think we have had leads that we have given back. What we are still learning is that we have to remain consistent by doing our job early in the game and finishing strong.”

Grizzlies Guard Mike Conley:

On helping the team keep its composure:

“There was a time in the game where guys were getting frustrated with the lack of plays that we were making at the time. I just wanted everyone to realize that we had a lot of time left and that we would be able to figure everything out.”

On the team’s ten-to-zero run:

“Once we started playing with a better pace of play defensively, guys started getting confident and feeding off of each other, which is the fun part of basketball when everybody is clicking like that.”

Pelicans

Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry:

On wrapping up a 5-2 homestand:

“It was a good homestand. It could have been a great homestand with a win tonight, but it didn’t happen so now we just have to pack up and go to San Antonio and play.”

On the struggles of the bench, especially Jrue Holiday and Ryan Anderson:

“They struggled. Obviously, Jrue has been playing great and Ryan has been playing great. I thought they did a great job on Ryan. They just didn’t give him any shot opportunities. You’ve got to give them credit in that department. We tried to free up some spacing for him, but they did a good job of switching and keeping guys on him. Even when we tried to post him I thought they did a great job of coming down and not letting him be the guy to beat them.”

On the loss:

“I wouldn’t consider this a ‘clunker’, really. It was a team playing really good. They’ve won nine out of eleven now, and when they have an inside-outside game going like they did tonight – where Vince Carter is shooting the ball well and I thought (Mario) Chalmers made a couple of threes and Jeff Green really shot the ball well – if they’re shooting it well from the perimeter and with the inside game they have, they’re a difficult team.”

Pelicans Forward Anthony Davis:

On the team having a tough night offensively:

“We just missed open shots. We ran good sets, but Vince Carter making 3 threes in the fourth gave them some separation. They made big plays, and we missed shots we normally make.”

On the Grizzlies making 60% of their three point shots:

“Yeah; it is tough for anyone when they make that many threes. Now, you can’t just worry about Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. With Vince (Carter) and Jeff (Green) and all those guys making threes, they are a tough team to beat. They become the whole package.”

Pelicans Guard Norris Cole:

On shots not falling in the fourth:

“We have to give them credit. They made tough shots. Vince (Carter) really came to life tonight; he was 5/6 from the field. Jeff (Green) played really well tonight and Mike (Conley) hit that tough shot when Toney (Douglas) almost had that steal. But, when they do make tough shots we have to come down and execute. Tonight the ball didn’t bounce our way, but we played well.”

On the 5-2 home stand and moving forward:

“Well, we did what we had to do. You always want to take advantage of long home stands. So, now it’s time to take this show on the road and play our style of basketball. We want to continue to have the same confidence and the same intensity.”
