Brevin Knight (@brevinknight22) is the Memphis Grizzlies color commentator on FOX Sports Southeast. He’s a former 12-year NBA point guard. Grizzlies fans love to see him along side his ‘partner’ Pete Pranica calling Grizz games. In this edition of Shy’s Corner, Mr. Knight [BK] answers a few questions for us.

1) Given the tumultuous start & the numerous injuries this squad has sustained this season, are you surprised at the team’s current standing?

Brevin: I’m surprised because of the timing. These are pressure filled games and they’ve stayed afloat due to good coaching and hard work.

2) How impactful do you think the trades have been in the team maintaining its spot in 5th in the Western Conference despite losing the team’s leading scorers to injury? Do you think they will keep that spot?

Brevin: It’s going to be very hard to hold on to 5th. If they can win a couple games down the stretch, they should be able to outlast those behind them though. The trades brought toughness, experience, and a proven scorer in Lance. There all factors in the team holding down the 5th spot.

3) Due to the injuries sustained this season we have had the opportunity to see many young players step up in big games. How much of that is just simply a young player being hungry? How much of their success do you think has to do with coaching?

Brevin: The D-league guys success is due to their own hard work and belief in themselves and the coaches they had that got them to this point. The coaches get credit for putting them in positions to be successful. The all year young guys know exactly what’s expected of them and how to execute. All of them are making the most of the opportunity and if you want it consistently, these are the times to shine.

4) What makes the Memphis Grizzlies so special?

Brevin: Mental and physical strength and a strong bond with this community.

5) With all the adversity that this team has endured this season, should Dave Joerger be in consideration for coach of the year?

Brevin: I think Dave should get consideration especially if they can stay in 5th. He’s had 27 different players and has played the majority of the season without his top players. Despite those challenges this team has continued to fight and compete. A lot of credit to Dave and his staff.

6) Will you ever make the transition to college or the NBA as a coach?

Brevin: I’ll never say no.
