Hawks roll past Grizzlies and a trade might be imminent

The Atlanta Hawks (27-8) defeated the Memphis Grizzlies (25-10) 96-86 in a hard fought contest that wasn’t decided until the final minutes in the contest. The Hawks proved why they are the best team in the East right now. Joerger tried different types of line ups that proved to be unsuccessful against the hungry Atlanta Hawks. The Grizzlies really miss the presence of Zach Randolph who missed his 9th straight game. The Hawks were just too much for the Grizzlies. Barring injury, expect the Hawks to go far in the East.

Game Notes

1) Grizzlies need Zbo to come back. He’s being missed on offense.

2) Too many turnovers!! Hawks had 17 steals.

3) The Hawks are a really really good team with various offensive and defensive weapons.

4) Perimeter defense continues to be a problem. Hawks connected on 13 three pointers.

5) Grizzlies offense became stagnant at times. Not too many players on the team have the ability to create their own shots.

6) I will say it again, Zbo is missed!!

7) Atlanta wanted the game more. Grizzlies rallied after being down 13 but it just wasn’t quite enough.

Up Next

Grizzlies will travel to New Orleans to face a good Pelicans team that has phenom Anthony Davis. This will be a tough match up with or without Zach Randolph. Grizzlies just need to play Grizzlies basketball, be stingy on defense, don’t leave 3 point shooters open and make minimal mistakes on offense. Hopefully, Zbo will be back and Grizz get the victory.

Trade News

Reportedly the Grizzlies are having trading discussions involving Jeff Green of the Boston Celtics and Luol Deng of the Miami Heat. After last night’s loss, Dave Joerger was adamant, “We have to get another playmaker on the floor.”

A trade is likely. I want to have the wait and see approach before I offer my opinion but I do have questions about both players. Will either player make the team better on both ends of the court? Will either fit in with the guys? Will either stay with the team passed this year? How will it affect cap space and will a trade affect the resigning Marc Gasol? Who will we give up for either player. And will a trade be worth it at this juncture?
