The Suns didn’t shine in Memphis

The Suns didn’t shine in Memphis on Wednesday night. As a matter of fact, the Suns haven’t been shining at all this season. They have the worst record in the west, 15-37. With that said, the Grizzlies had to take them seriously and not look past them. It was a unwatchable game at times, but the Grizzlies secured the victory 110-91. The Grizzlies have won six of their last seven games.

Quick tidbits

1) Mike Conley led the Grizzlies with 23 points, five assists and two steals. Conley shot 7-of-10 from the field and went 4-of-5 from the three point line.

2) Marc Gasol ended the night with 19 points and seven rebounds after going 6-of-11 from the field.

3) With 11 points and 10 rebounds, JaMychal Green recorded his seventh double double of the season.

4) Three other Grizzlies players ended with double figures Troy Daniels 14, Toney Douglas 11 and Tony Allen 10.

5. The Suns had four players in double figures led by Devin Booker with 20 points. Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight both ended with 16 points a piece. Alex Len chipped in 11 points off the bench.

6. Chandler Parsons ended with eight points and a season high seven assists. Parsons made two of his three point shot attempts.

7. There was an altercation late in the fourth quarter that led to Troy Daniels, Tyler Uliss and Marquese Chriss ejections.

Quotables

Coach Fizdale

On the importance of the game:

“Recently we started to figure out that we just aren’t a team that can play thinking we have a lot of grey area. We have to bring it every night and compete at a high level. I thought we showed Phoenix the proper respect. We really competed and had a business type win.”

On the bench’s composure during the fourth quarter disagreement:

“These guys aren’t fighting. There was a whole lot of huffing and puffing and pushing and shoving. The best thing that came out of tonight was that we got a good win. We showed this team proper respect. We competed at a high level. We shared the basketball. I thought we defended consistently throughout the game against a very good offensive team. I’ll take that.”

Marc Gasol

On what he liked defensively in the game:

“Our ball pressure, our physicality and our communication. Everybody was moving together. That’s great. Obviously we would like to finish possessions with a rebound. That’s something we can and must improve but overall, defensively, I thought it was a pretty good effort.”

Tony Allen

On the team’s defense:

“I thought it was one of those games where we beat a top team like the Spurs and then come play a team that doesn’t have anything to play for. It’s like one of those trick games where you probably can let your guard down. But I thought we stayed focused and kept the momentum going because we have a tough game coming up next.”

Mike Conley

On the team’s defense:

“I’m very happy with our effort defensively. They’re a very good, young offensive team. A lot of guys over there can really put it up so we were proud to have the kind of effort and attention to detail; things that will bode well against Golden State coming up who plays in a similar kind of fashion – play upbeat and fast. It was a good night for us.”

Suns Guard Devin Booker

On the altercation with Troy Daniels:

“It’s just basketball, man. You talk trash sometimes. I don’t know why he’d be talking to me. He’s been on five teams in three years, and he has the nerve to talk trash to me? It is what it is.  He’s on a winning team, so, you know you have those muscles when you’re on a winning team. So, it is what it is. We will see him again.”
