Preview: Grizzlies at Hawks

The Grizzlies Goon Squad will be in Atlanta tonight to take on the Hawks, after an exciting OT victory against New Orleans last night. I’m sure this Memphis team will be looking to build on that momentum as they head into tonight’s game.

With so many players out due to injury, the Grizzlies starting lineup last night was a motley crew, but one that turned out to be surprisingly effective against a similarly injury-riddled Pelicans team. Vince Carter left the game shortly before the half, wincing as he was helped down the tunnel and back to the locker room. It was later reported he would not be returning due to a left leg injury, and his status for tonight is still up in the air.

We’ve reached the point that this Grizzlies team may have more players on the injured list than on the active roster. A small silver lining in these dark times has been the increased playing time for both JaMychal Green, and rookie Jarell Martin, the latter having spent the majority of the season on the injured list himself. Briante Weber, the point guard the Grizzlies recruited from the D-League on a 10-day contract, had an incredible showing for his first NBA game.

It’s hard to make a prediction on how a game will go at this point, it seems to defy logic and the laws of physics for this rag-tag squad to still be grinding out wins, but somehow they are. It is a testament to what a weird season it has been that Memphis has lost nearly all of their best players and are still somehow sitting in the 5-seed for the playoffs. I hope they can continue to rack up a few more wins before April, and the cruel joke that is the Grizzlies final two weeks of the season, and keep themselves in the 5th seed.

Buckle up for what is sure to be another wild ride against the Hawks.

Let’s get weird, Grizzlies fans.
