This One Is Going to Sting A Long Time- Recap: Grizzlies at Hornets

Saturday night your Grizzlies earned themselves another notch in the loss column, as well as the honor of being swept in the season series against Charlotte. It was a much more competitive game for sure than the whipping the Hornets handed us at home a couple weeks back, but the L still counts the same whether it’s by 6 points or 24.

The Grizzlies collective energy level might have been slightly higher than in the last meeting against the Hornets, but that’s not exactly much of a feat, and still only slightly. If the game on 12/11 was a decaf effort, then Saturday night’s was half-caf, at best. Definitely an improvement but still not enough to get the job done. Is anyone sensing a theme yet?

By the numbers:
Only three Grizzlies scored in double digits, and only two of those were starters.
Mike Conley had a team high 19 points, including 4 of 7 from three point range, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds.
Marc Gasol had 18 points. 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Zach Randolph also finished the night with 18 points and 12 rebounds, proving that he can do work from the bench as well as the starting lineup.

FT
The Grizzlies shot a collective 52% from the free throw line tonight, going 11-21. You cannot just leave ten free points on the table, ever. Until a few days ago, Memphis was the top free throw shooting team in the league, so this was an especially troubling thing to see.

A few things:
How many games in a row does Kemba Walker have to light us up before someone on the coaching staff realizes that maybe there is a pattern here? Let’s just assume from now on that Walker is going to do some serious offensive damage if left to his own devices.

That Nick Batum fellow isn’t half bad either, did we forget about that?

Jeremy Lin, I can only presume you have no one in your life that will take you aside and gently explain that whatever was going on with your hair tonight was wrong, and you should never, ever do it again. Your hair gel privileges are hereby revoked until further notice. It’s for your own good, really.

When did the Grizzlies develop an allergy to consistent free throw shooting? Generally they wait until the post season to start borking up FTs like they did in Charlotte. When Courtney Lee misses his one and only free throw attempt (!), you’re going to have a bad time.
