Memphis Grizzlies vs Minnesota Timberwolves Preview

Tonight the Grizzlies will be on the road again, this time back in Minnesota to play against the Timberwolves.

I shouldn’t need to remind any citizen of Grizz Nation of the embarrassing loss we suffered on February 6th in Minnesota, but in case you managed to strike that game from memory, let’s just say that we have an ax to grind against this Timberwolves team.

The offensive efficiency that Memphis has cultivated this season seems to be wavering, and even their defensive efforts have left something to be desired in the last two games.

There’s no reason to panic about either of these, at least not just yet, but stopping the downward slide we seem to be on needs to be a top priority tonight, and moving forward.

In order to come away with a much needed win tonight, we are going to need to see more of a consistent and concerted effort from everyone across the board. I’m not singling anyone out here because I don’t think there is really any one single person responsible, and I think it is to be expected that sometimes we’re just going to have an off night. The focus here should be to do whatever it takes to have a better one tonight.

We’re also going to need to do better from long range, which seems to be an ongoing theme for us. Looking at statistics for this season, the number of 3 point attempts has been the same on average for both wins and losses, with roughly 15.4 3 3PA, but in the 41 games we have won, our 3P% has been 37.8%, versus 23.1% over our 16 losses.

Statistics don’t always tell the whole story, but a difference of nearly 15% seems significant. Simply put: when we make more threes, we win more games. When we attack the glass, we win more games.

So get boards and get buckets, and let’s hope to see a few more of those buckets coming from beyond the 3 point line.

The action tonight starts at 7PM CST and once again local fans can tune into the television broadcast on Fox Sports South, or listen in to the radio broadcast on ESPN 92.9
