Grizzlies Fall to Clippers in the Austin Rivers Show, Get Swept out of Staples Center

This is the stuff that nightmares are made of.

Well here we are again. Another day, another disappointing loss to recap. This one wasn’t just disappointing, it was embarrassing as well. Because Clippers.

I'm just going to leave this right here.

Dorothy Parker Bear would like a word.

The Grizzlies were unceremoniously swept out of Staples Center on this West Coast road trip. Memphis blew a 13 point lead to a Clippers team playing without Blake Griffin and Chris Paul.

Adding insult to injury is the fact that it was Austin Rivers who gave this Memphis team the final shove and slammed the door shut. I don’t know about anyone else, but that’s just rubbing salt in an open wound.

And it truly was the Austin Rivers show, as he scored a game high 28 points and played a game high 44 minutes. WTAF?

Y’all. We got stunted on by Austin Rivers.

Some thoughts:

Do we need to get someone to make a Starbucks run during halftime?

Once again, the opposing team got hot during the second half of the game, just in time for both the Grizzlies defense and offense to go ice cold. It seems like there’s been a pattern lately of giving up a lead in the 2nd half, and showing little interest in fighting to get it back from anyone not named Tony Allen.

Couple this with the Grizzlies tendency to play down to their opponent, and it’s not the best look we’ve seen out of this team. It’s hard to be surprised at some of the inconsistencies as of late, with the spate of injuries that have left Memphis with a shorthanded roster. It’s not exactly a secret the Grizzlies have been struggling to adapt to frequent roster changes due to the aforementioned injuries.

However, that doesn’t excuse a lack of effort, or playing without a sense of urgency. Or blowing a double digit lead for no good reason.

Now that players are starting to return to the lineup from the injured list, the team’s on court chemistry will most likely need some time to reset. And this will probably be extremely painful to watch at times. It might get worse before it gets better, even.

While there might not be much the Grizzlies can control regarding player injuries, there are still a number of fundamental things that are within their control. Specifically, defending without fouling and on the offensive end, not looking to get bailed out by foul calls.

Here’s the dirty details, if you’re feeling particularly masochistic.

And now, if I can just get you to look right over here for a minute…

Let’s pretend this never happened.
